Agent Based Modelling of Aid

چکیده

The issue of modelling international financial aid to underdeveloped countries baffled economists for decades. The initial assumptions (that outside aid could help bolster up the internally insufficient investment, thus helping economic growth) were statistically proven wrong; most of the recipient countries did not experience rapid growth, rather an increasing dependence on foreign aid. The question arises: what causes some countries to use the aid successfully whereas most fail to do so? What is the underlying reason for this difference across regions? And how could it be modelled? In this paper I would like to show, that a hierarchical agent-based model might be able to model the complex international cooperation among aid-giving organizations and recipient countries, so that some light could be shed on the mechanics of efficient aid distribution.

Spatio-temporal agent based simulation of COVID-19 disease and investigating the effect of vaccination (case study: Urmia)

Proper management of epidemic diseases such as Covid-19 is very important because of its effects on the economy, culture and society of nations. By applying various control strategies such as closing schools, restricting night traffic and mass vaccination program, the spread of this disease has been somewhat controlled but not completely stopped. The main goal of this research is to provide a f...

Agent-based stockmarket models: calibration issues and application

Returns on stocks have traditionally been modelled by fitting a suitable statistical process to empirical returns. In contrast the agent-based approach to stockmarket modelling considers stock prices as arising from the interaction of a number of individual investors each trading with their own aims. This approach has been shown to reproduce features of real stockmarkets. To date the agent-base...

Intending the Unintended: the Act of Building Agent-based Models as a Regular Source of Knowledge Generation

Poverty is a complex issue that is rarely conducive to analysis in laboratory or field experiments. Effective interventions that aim to decrease or eliminate poverty require an understanding of the intricate web of associated social issues. The need for this increased comprehension necessitates the use of alternative robust means of analysis: one such being agent-based modelling. The strengths ...

CaseLP: a Prototyping Environment for Heterogeneous Multi-Agent Systems

This paper describes CaseLP, a logic-based environment for modelling and prototyping Multi-Agent Systems (MASs). CaseLP provides an Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (AOSE) methodology which guides the MAS developer from the late requirement analysis stage to the prototype validation stage. CaseLP also offers a set of languages and tools both for modelling agents that are characterised by het...

Using Agent-Based Modelling Approaches to Support the Development of Safety Policy for Systems of Systems

A safety policy defines the set of rules that governs the safe interaction of agents operating together as part of a system of systems (SoS). Agent autonomy can give rise to unpredictable, and potentially undesirable, emergent behaviour. Deriving rules of safety policy requires an understanding of the capabilities of an agent as well as how its actions affect the environment and consequently th...
